Rutland Water is one of Europe’s largest man-made lakes with about 11 square kilometres of water in 13 square kilometres of country side. There is a walking/cycle track around the lake stretching 40 kms.

Rutland Sailing Club, situated on the south shore has a number of keel boat fleets including Hunter Formula 1, Squibs, Kinsman, K1, Flying Fifteens and Solings.

The maximum size of boat allowed on Rutland Water is 27 feet. The Soling, at just under 27 feet is the longest boat that sails there. There are currently five Solings in the fleet at RSC.

Rutland Sailing Club (RSC) hosts a Soling fleet currently standing at five boats. We are a very welcoming lot so if you fancy coming along send our Fleet Captain an email and let us know you are coming. The RSC Soling fleet captain is Paul Tully, the current secretary of the British Soling Association (BSA). You will find his contact details under BSA contacts.

You would be very welcome to come along to find out more about Solings and to come out and sail with us. We are always looking for crew members so you would be very welcome, the address and directions are available below.

We generally race on Sundays and usually all year round. In the summer there is the option to race on a Thursday evening. When participating in club racing we sail off a handicap (PY) of 914.

RSC Pontoon

Each of our boats are dry sailed. RSC has several concrete slipways but we use the “Bosun’s Slipway” to launch Solings using specially made launching trailers. The pontoon on the Bosun’s slipway has recently been extended into deep water. We have an adapted tractor at RSC to launch our boats. It has a tow hitch on the front which makes maneuvering and launching quite easy.  We have two “A” frames and chain blocks for hoisting boats off road trailers and onto launching trailers. There is ample room for visitors to park and rig their boats for regattas.

RutlandSC

RSC has a large, modern clubhouse which has a “wet” restaurant and bar, a lounge bar, men’s and women’s changing rooms and various meeting rooms. There is also an independently run chandlery. Find the chandlery contact details below . We have a well-equipped bosun’s workshop and a number of modern garages to stow all of our many RIBs and dory boats.

There is modern and well cared for accommodation available at the club which can be booked in advance through the RSC office. Please see the accommodation list below. Payment must be made with the booking. The RSC office can take bookings and card details over the phone.

Disabled Visitors

The clubhouse is equipped with a special purpose ramp and an elevator to ensure access to all parts of the club. There is special handicap parking. We have special pontoon hoists to enable disabled sailors to board boats.  There is disabled accommodation within the club with shower.
